Sharjah Children’s Book Award

The Sharjah Reading Children’s Festival (SCRF) strives to develop reading among children as well as to improve the children’s book industry standards. In its current edition, the SCRF will present a number of awards dedicated to children’s books with its more sophisticated methods including, critical selection and evaluation in order to help the awarded books to get their deserved publicity.

The award targets 3 categories:

Arabic Children’s book ( from 4 to 12 years old )

Arabic Young Adult book ( from 13 to 17 years old )

English Children’s book ( from 7 to 13 years old )

Targeted Audience

Publishers- the selection of the Best Book of the Year will be made based on the records of publishers as well as pre-collected and standardized data.

Writers- the award shall be shared by the author and illustrator of the wining book (written content/ visual content).


The value amount of the award will be AED 20,000.

Award Objectives

Being concerned with encouraging writers and different creators to produce high level works in the field of children’s literature, the Sharjah Children’s Reading Festival has decided to launch the “Sharjah Children’s Book Awards” which is meant to develop children’s literary, cultural abilities and improve their awareness, as well as enrich libraries with children’s literature.


  • Nominated book must be new and unique in its field.
  • The first edition of the nominated book must have been published in in the past 2 years prior to current SCRF.
  • Nominated book should not be a revised edition.
  • Nominated writer must not have won a prize for the category applied in the past two years.
  • Sharjah Book Authority Management shall not return submitted copies to nominees.
  • Nominated book must not have won a literary award before.
  • Translated books or those developed from other books are not accepted.
  • Applicants must specify to which category the books are nominated.
  • Sharjah Book Authority Management shall have the right to use covers of and excerpts from awarded books in all types of SCRF marketing communications without taking the approval from the publisher or writer.
  • The candidates have no right to contest any of the jury decisions.
  • The awards shall be launched prior to SCRF each year.
  • Nominations will be closed in the 5th of March each year.
  • Winners shall be announced in a special awards ceremony.
  • Filled nomination form on the website.
  • Three copies of the nominated book (non-returnable).
  • Brief of the publisher as well as curricula vitae of the writer and illustrator.
  • A copy of valid passport of the writer and illustrator.
